Sony Rolls Out PSSR Upscaling Feature as Part of PS5 Pro Console Update to Improve Gaming

The PlayStation 5 Pro is finally getting the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) feature.

Sony’s new update is now being touted by the company to be right in time to play the new and previously released AAA-rated games on the console, including “Resident Evil Requiem” and more.

According to the latest post on the PlayStation Blog, Sony has now rolled out the much-awaited upgrade to the PlayStation Spectral Super Resolution (PSSR) upscaling feature, which it teased several weeks ago.

Based on Sony’s post, the company updated the feature’s algorithm and neural networks that it uses for the feature.

The PS5 Pro can now output improvements to its visual performance, and this means that “image reconstruction is more precise, motion stability is improved, and developers have greater flexibility to balance performance and fidelity on PS5 Pro.”

The PSSR feature utilizes an AI library that can scan each frame, pixel by pixel, in its upscaling process for the game’s visuals. The feature is especially useful for gamers who want better image quality in their gaming experiences, which is precisely what the PS5 Pro markets to gamers.

According to the blog post, there is a catch to the upgraded PS5 Pro upscaling experience with the new and improved PSSR. This is because this feature will only work with select titles on the console, and these are Sony’s partners who adopted the technology early.
